Little Swiss Discovery

My apartment
I don’t think I want to go into details. I have no complains which you know, no complains from me means I don’t dislike anything ;) I have perfectly clean and tidy room & toilet, excellent condition. My housemates – a Fin, French and Swiss. Awesome people !! Such a diversity in cultures and attitudes.

Weather
Just the way I love!!! To give you a clue – it is like Cameron Highlands, but of course when you have the wind blowing, it’s very chilly but still, I am loving it ;)

My town
Is called Winterthur! It is in the Zurich Zone but I am not exactly staying in Zurich the big city. However, this town is pretty well-known ( the 6th largest city in Switz ) and it is the heart of finance and insurance, with some Industrial and Manufacturing Companies away from it , which is exactly I go to work.

Living Expenses
I know Switzerland is EXPENSIVE but the reality only sets in when you live here. It was crazy how my cash flows like water. I am so dry and now, it is a matter of MaggiMee or Bread with butter and jam to survive. I am serious !!! I am almost starving myself to death!!!! Well you see. The picture is this. The cheapest food ( = petaling street food ) costs me 8CHF (about RM24) which btw, is so rare and the standard ones cost me like 20CHF. Not done yet, if you want slightly above average then you have the 40CHF and higher some more is 60 CHF and if you want higher, okiee you have to find out yourself.

Transportation
Winterthur is know for its flat ground level, so guess what, I am gonna get a BICYCLE soon – to travel around town and to work. But it is all worth-while as Winterthur is far away from the madding crowd, it is defined by the beautiful sights and you are able to enjoy the certain simplicity in the way they live. Needless to say, it is also the cheapest mode of transportation. I had already spent 250CHF for transportation and I dont wanna pay that amount again next month. Making calls – also very pricey. Msia is only 20 to 40 cents, here it is at least 60 cents and what makes it more canggih is that it is in CHF.

So relieved - Zurich FINALLY !!

Guten Tag!!! After all impossibilities and uncertainties, all sacrifices and dilemmas, it is hard to believe I am in an AIESEC traineeship and it's EUROPE. I knew I always wanted to do this but being realised itself is a whole new perspective and feeling altogether. Believe me, every AIESEC should experience this. So many people out there are dying to go for traineeship or exchange program especially the Europeans here. They are all adventurous, exposed and simply lively. It struck me how shameful to see how some Asians still live in their comfort zones and be contented with their lives.

Anyway..enough philosophy, it is already meine (my) 4th tag (day) here and 1st day at work. I am already learning and speaking German because here, even if you look Asian, nobody gives a damn. Everyone speaks to you in German, I mean Swiss-German. It is totally the opposite to Malaysia. We do not speak Malay to a kwai-lo or Chinese to the Malays. At first it was funny, but now I am living and learning with. In a way, it is really cool - I am catching up very quickly, even my Windows PC, all in German !!! ;)

Plane Journey
Flying to Zurich took me 14 miserable hours, even more torturing to have so uncomfortable seats that I could not sleep at all. Well, thankful though I had a good chat with this woman from New Zealand. She was about to have 3 weeks travel holiday around Switz. Just hearing that, I already cant wait till it is my turn.

Airport Reception
06.15 I touched down Zurich Airport. Went into the toilet ( or should I called restroom ), it was so clean, new, white, furnished, clear coloured and all spacious. In fact the toilet was so good that I spent 20 mins inside just to clean up while every other person who came in doing the same thing as me already gone!! Well, I supposed it was a serious sign!! Serious sign that I should speed up and no more deli-dally as I could not discard my ugly habit ;p

Today, was also the day I really felt my heart beating so hard and my face felt so heated up. It all happened while I was pushing my trolley to meet the AIESECers who picked me up. The feelings was inexplicable - I was feeling excited but nervous and anxious at the same time. I was swamped with many stupid thoughts - Are they going to do the AIESEC “thing”, Is there only 1 or bunch of them??? Are my buddies gonna be tall dark and handsome??? Do they think this Asian gal is pretty ??? ;p etc . The moment itself was really something money-cant-buy. It was exhilarating and nerve-wrecking. I felt what trainees felt. So if we did a bad job last time, it is disastrous and unhealthy to their whole first impression. Well, anyway, then when I met the AIESECers, it was nothing I imagined. They were polite, decent-looking, slightly reserved, warm and always laughing. Experienced my first Swiss Kiss too, felt very special of course ;)
